Are you an experienced Residential Support Worker (RSW), Youth Justice Practitioner, Prison/Custodial Officer, or Specialist Behaviour Mentor seeking a school-hours role in Blackpool?

An established Alternative Provision in Blackpool is recruiting a dedicated, robust, and resilient Specialist 1:1 Keyworker to support a secondary-aged pupil with complex developmental trauma and high-risk SEMH needs.

The student presents with a forensic risk profile, severe conduct disorder, and socially/sexually disinhibited behaviours (SDB), including inappropriate sexualised behaviours (ISB) and harmful sexual behaviour (HSB). The role demands exceptional boundary maintenance, high relational security, and experience managing exploitation risk and sexually reactive behaviours within a structured educational framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver continuous, high-vigilance 1:1 relational containment and line-of-sight monitoring throughout the school day.

  • Manage and reduce incidents of sexually disinhibited behaviour (SDB) and harmful sexual behaviour (HSB) using non-confrontational, trauma-informed redirection.

  • Support pupils with complex developmental trauma, exploitation risks, and severe conduct disorders to access functional learning and life-skills programmes.

  • Apply proactive de-escalation, low-arousal strategies, and positive handling techniques to manage dysregulation and reduce risk.

  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency teams, including the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Social Care, Youth Offending Teams (YOT/YJS), and external forensic services.

  • Maintain clear, factual, and chronological incident logs, contributing to risk assessments, AIM3 frameworks, and EHCP reviews.

Candidate Requirements & Transferable Experience

  • Background: Proven experience within Children's Residential Homes, Secure Children's Homes (SCH), Youth Offending/Custodial Estates (HMPPS), Forensic Mental Health, or Pupil Referral Units (PRUs).

  • Specialist Experience: Direct experience working with adolescents displaying harmful sexual behaviours (HSB), sexually reactive profiles, high-risk SEMH, or complex criminal/conduct backgrounds.

  • Mindset: Robust emotional resilience, high professional boundaries, non-judgemental attitude, and the ability to manage counter-transference in high-vigilance settings.

  • Certifications: Certified training in recognised positive handling/de-escalation (e.g., Team-Teach, MAPA/CPI, PRICE, or Maybo) is strongly preferred.

  • Compliance: Enhanced Child & Adult Workforce DBS registered on the DBS Update Service (or willingness to apply immediately), alongside a fully checkable 2-year employment/education reference history.
