This Support Worker role is centred around helping individuals develop practical life skills, improve wellbeing and move forward into education, training, employment or stable housing.

The successful Support Worker will provide structured emotional and practical support, help maintain safe living environments and work closely with other professionals to ensure young people receive the right guidance at the right time.

Day-to-day of the role

  • Build positive working relationships with young people and provide tailored support based on individual plans and risk assessments.
  • Help residents strengthen daily living skills, including budgeting, managing appointments, maintaining accommodation and preparing for independent living.
  • Encourage participation in education, training, work-related activity and other opportunities that support personal development.
  • Deliver one-to-one and group sessions focused on tenancy readiness, confidence, money management and general life skills.
  • Support young people to access health services, welfare support and wider community resources where needed.
  • Assist with housing-related tasks such as sign-ups, occupancy agreements, referrals, move-ins and planned move-ons.
  • Monitor the condition, safety and cleanliness of accommodation, reporting repairs and carrying out routine checks.
  • Promote safeguarding, professional boundaries and positive behaviour within the home and the wider community.
  • Support involvement in activities that build confidence and social skills, such as cooking sessions, meetings and wellbeing activities.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues and external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for each young person.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in a support, care, housing or community-based setting.
  • Good understanding of the challenges faced by care leavers, looked after children and vulnerable young people.
  • Ability to provide practical and emotional support in a professional, person-centred way.
  • Strong communication and listening skills, with a calm, respectful and empathetic approach.
  • Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care, Children and Young People, or willingness to work towards this.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
  • Flexible approach to working shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Awareness of safeguarding, risk management and maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Desirable experience in housing support, tenancy management, property checks or working knowledge of relevant regulations.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and ongoing professional development.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.
  • Training and development support, including role-related qualifications.
  • Varied and rewarding work in a person-centred environment.
  • Chance to work alongside experienced colleagues and external partner agencies.
  • Supportive team culture with a strong focus on positive outcomes.
