Shift Engineer
Location: Shepton Mallet
Salary: £51,510.48 per annum
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent role
Shift Pattern: 2 x 12-hour day shifts (06:00 – 18:00), followed by 2 x 12-hour night shifts (18:00 – 06:00), then 4 days off.
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Shift Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Shepton Mallet site.
This position requires a self-motivated, diligent, and technically capable individual with proven engineering experience and relevant qualifications. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring maximum equipment efficiency, minimising downtime, and supporting operational performance within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Working closely with both engineering and production teams, you will be responsible for maintaining site equipment to the highest standards while driving continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage engineering activities across the site to maximise equipment efficiency and reliability while meeting operational requirements.
- Carry out and accurately record planned preventative maintenance on plant machinery and services.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and undertake corrective maintenance to minimise production downtime.
- Diagnose faults effectively and implement long-term engineering solutions.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately recorded using the site's maintenance management systems.
- Support engineering improvement projects and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Influence and support engineering and production teams to achieve site performance objectives.
- Ensure machinery and services are fully operational and production-ready following maintenance activities.
- Promote and maintain high standards of food safety, quality, health and safety, and compliance.
- Assist in developing engineering best practices and continuous improvement programmes.
- Support colleagues through coaching, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance where required.
Candidate Requirements
- Recognised engineering qualifications.
- Proven experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally FMCG or food production.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive approach with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Self-motivated and highly organised.
