Victim Support Worker
Birmingham · Hospitality & Catering
Victim Support officer / Victim Referrals Officer
Fixed Term Contract initially to January 2027 with longer term potential for further 5 years once the contract has been re-awarded.
Are you experienced in supporting vulnerable people or working with people who have been victims of abuse/trauma and ready to make a real difference to the lives these people? We’re looking for a compassionate, resilient Referrals Officer to join a dedicated team on a fixed-term, 35-hour per week contract, helping build trust, assess risk, and connect people to the right support at the right time.
The role
You’ll work with vulnerable adults affected by abuse, organised crime or exploitation, carrying out trauma-informed risk and needs assessments, responding to referrals, and coordinating support with service providers and partner agencies. This is a fast-paced, people-focused role where calm communication, good judgement, and strong relationship-building skills really matter. The post sits within a multi-agency framework, working closely with police, border force, local authorities, and specialist support services.
Working pattern
This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham, with two office days each week (Monday and Wednesday) and the remainder worked remotely. The service operates 24/7, 365 days a year, so you’ll need to be comfortable working a rota that includes evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. If you cover late or night shifts, you won’t be expected in the office the following day, helping to protect rest and wellbeing while keeping the service responsive.
What we’re looking for
We’d love to hear from people who have:
- Worked in support roles with vulnerable people, survivors of abuse, or trauma-affected clients.
- Experience of trauma-informed practice, safeguarding, risk assessment, or casework.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage sensitively with people in distress.
- The ability to work calmly under pressure, manage competing priorities, and keep accurate records.
- Experience working with multiple agencies and service providers to achieve the best outcomes for clients.
Why apply
This is an opportunity to join a vital service where every conversation can help someone take a step toward safety and recovery. If you want a role with purpose, variety, and the chance to make a meaningful impact every day, this could be the right next move.
